THE NIGHT QUALIFICATION (AEROPLANES)
Pre course requirements
An applicant for a U.K. night rating must have completed a total of 50 hours as pilot of aeroplanes to include:
25 hours as pilot in command
5 hours instruction in instrument flying of which 2.5 hours may be tuition in instrument flying in an approved simulated flight trainer
The flying section of the U.K. night rating course consists of 5 hours of flight by night comprising:
A minimum of 3 hours dual instruction including at least one hour of night navigation. The remaining hours may be solo during which at least one airfield departure and return, and 5 solo take-offs and landings shall be completed.
NIGHT QUALIFICATION (AEROPLANES) FLYING TRAINING/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
When applying for an Night Qualification you must produce evidence of having met the following flying requirements:
(a) 5 hours overall night training in aeroplanes to include (b) and (c),
(b) (i) 3 hours dual night training to include (ii);
(ii) 1 hour dual night navigation;
(c) 5 Take-off and full stop landings at night as PIC of aeroplanes.
Examination required nil
The holder of a licence that does not include a valid instrument rating (aeroplane) shall not act as pilot-in-command of an aeroplane carrying passengers at night unless, during the previous 90 days, at least one takeoff and landing has been completed at night.
